Each year on September 18, air-raid sirens sound for several minutes in Shenyang City, northeast China's Liaoning Province, to pay tribute to the victims in 1931. The memorial ceremony serves as a reminder for the nation to keep the darkest days firmly in mind.
On this date 88 years ago, the Japanese troops used explosives to destroy a section of the railway in Shenyang, starting China's 14-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
