Villages in China used to be poor and underdeveloped. Since the country's economic ascent, villages in the country are pictures of prosperity and sustainable development. Some farmers in Panjin in Liaoning Province combine river crab cultivation and rice planting, since crabs feed on weeds and insects in the fields, and their excreta are natural fertilizer for rice. As the facilities and construction have improved, the hotel industry, rural tourism and other new industries in rural areas are also flourishing.
