Early snow arrived in China's northeastern provinces on September 15, creating a fabulous winter wonderland in autumn.

The local meteorological department said the first snow in Mohe City, northeastern Heilongjiang Province, came 25 days earlier than usual following a cold front. It is expected to shave the local temperature by five degrees Celsius.

Mohe is one of the places that see earliest snowfall in China. The northernmost Chinese city borders Russia. The temperatures there is normally the lowest in the country. With an annual average of 15.9 degrees Celsius, the temperature in the city can drop as low as −52.3 degrees Celsius.

More than 5,000 kilometers away in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the cold front also caused an unexpected drop in temperature. Qinghe County in the region also saw an early snowfall, with hills, yurts and pine trees being covered in gleaming white.

Snow usually falls in Qinghe in October and lasts until the end of May. This year, it was about half a month earlier, attracting many tourists there for its unique scenery.
