Tibet receives more tourists during Mid-Autumn Festival holiday

Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region received a total of 910,021 tourists during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday starting Friday, up 18.2 percent year on year, local tourism authorities said Monday.

Tourism revenue during the period reached about 252.9 million yuan (35.78 million U.S. dollars), marking a year-on-year increase of 19.5 percent, according to the regional tourism development department.

Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Lake Namtso, Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, Mount Qomolangma and other major scenic spots remain the top destinations for visitors during the holiday.

The region has stepped up efforts in stimulating its tourism industry to attract more visitors in recent years. In the first half of 2019, Tibet received a total of 13.4 million tourists, seeing tourism revenue hit 14.94 billion yuan.
