Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, president of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday congratulated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and said that China's remarkable advancements and achievements over the past 70 years have benefited people all over the world.

Hailing China's remarkable achievements in areas such as poverty eradication, infrastructure building, illiteracy elimination, sustainable development and humanitarian aid, Bande praised China for shouldering global responsibility as it develops itself, both economically and politically.

"China is on track to ending poverty ahead of schedule as envisioned by the UN 2030 Agenda -- this alone would be a significant contribution to the global community," he said. "Not to mention China has helped lift poverty in Africa and fasten developments in areas such as agriculture and infrastructure."

In July, Bande, who was then president-elect chose China as the first country to visit since his election. He officially swore in this Tuesday at the opening of the 2019-2020 session of the most representative body of the United Nations.

"The visit to China was very meaningful to me," he said, adding China has played an increasingly important role in global affairs, particularly in its relations with the United Nations.

"The tasks that China has advanced greatly such as ending poverty, pushing high-quality education and tackling climate change are all issues that the UN focuses on solving."
