Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan met visiting Maldives' Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid in Beijing on Thursday, and the pair vowed to enhance cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. 

Wang said inclusiveness is in the DNA of Chinese civilization and China has always believed that countries with different systems, no matter the size, should treat each other equally and with respect.

China is willing to work with the Maldives to build the Belt and Road, and promote the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations, Wang added. 

Shahid congratulated China on its 70th birthday, adding that the country is a great neighbor, a generous partner and a trustworthy friend.
