Reporter's Diary: Getting over it
By Yang Chengxi

Okay I admit it I have anxiety issues.

I joined CGTN's New China tour on September 15 as a co-host. We are traveling across eastern China in a bus that's been turned into a mobile studio. This is by far the most challenging assignment ever in my career: hosting five live shows a day for six days straight.

Full disclosure: I was terrified on my first day. We were en route to Wenzhou city. Sky's blue, hills' green and I was in no mood to admire any of it. My focus was on surviving the shows without passing out on air.

In the afternoon we visited a shoe factory which produces for big brands like Hugo Boss. You can custom make your leather shoes here too. I was pleasantly distracted from the stress, because I've heard so much about Wenzhou's manufacturing, and especially their leather products. It isn't named the Leather Shoe Capital of China for nothing.

That night as I laid in my bed, I thought to myself: hey, when I just direct more of my attention to the actual topic of the show and not my insecurity, the anxiety immediately shrinks!

The next day I became a different man.

The way of conquering your fear of something is to do it over and over and over again...and little did I realize that five live shows later, I have already gotten over it.

By the time we reached China's largest movie and TV filming base Hengdian, I had thrown all my camera-shyness out of the window.

Before me and my co-host Lindy were to host a show talking about China's movie industry at noon inside of a build-to-scale fake Summer Palace, we were given the choice to wear costumes of ancient Chinese royal members. Okay, what do I wear...duh, the emperor's clothes!

And then, we were Emperor Yang and Empress Lindy on international television.

Now I'm really looking forward to the rest of the trip.
