The first overseas campus of New York's Juilliard School, Tianjin Juilliard, has opened its inaugural graduate program for applications.

Three collaborative majors in orchestral studies, chamber music, and collaborative piano are available. The qualified applicants are expected to attend the first class in the fall 2020.

Focusing on collaborative musicianship and providing extensive performance opportunities, the two-year full-time graduate program bestows a Master of Music degree equally accredited in the U.S.-based campus.

The newly-founded Tianjin Juilliard School currently only has a Saturday Pre-College program, which targets on students ages 8 to 18 who "exhibit the talent, potential, and accomplishment to pursue serious, conservatory-style music studies."

The first-ever class started on September 7, attracting 46 students from across China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan.

But the school has a bigger ambition by implementing global enrollment to build itself into a music educational center that influences the entire Asia region and beyond.

To accomplish this goal, an international roster of world-renowned artists has been set up, including a first batch of 21-member resident faculty, and 30 visiting teachers flying between New York and Tianjin. 

The Tianjin campus is set to bring extraordinary training and teaching experiences to the Chinese and international music students, Xinhua cited Joseph W. Polisi, president emeritus and chief China officer of the Juilliard School, as saying.
