It was an outstanding night for Liao Qiuyun and Team China on Friday at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

The Chinese clinched five gold medals on day three. Liao herself broke the clean and jerk world record with 129kg after beating compatriot Zhang Wanqiong to the clean and jerk and total gold medals in the women's 55kg. Zhang bounced back from the disappointment and took the snatch gold medals with 99kg.

In the men's 67kg, defending champion Chen Lijun continued his fine form with another total gold medal with 337kg, while his teammate Feng Lyudong came out on top with his best snatch lift of 153kg.

Meanwhile, Pak Jong Ju of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) broke the world record in the clean and jerk with a lift of 188kg to finish on 330kg overall, 7kg adrift of Chen.

That brought China's total medal tally to 21–11 gold, eight silver and two bronze.
