Hong Kong celebrates 70th anniversary of PRC founding

The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (HKFTU) on Sunday held a reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which was attended by over 300 guests from all sectors, including HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam. 

In a speech at the reception, Carrie said that in the past 70 years, Chinese people have made great achievements and overcome various difficulties. She said she is proud of it as a Chinese. 

"Today's China has jumped to become the world's second largest economy and people's living standards have been greatly improved," Carrie said. "The achievements in cultural construction, scientific and technological development, and urban modernization have caught the attention of the world and China now plays an important role on the international stage."  

Carrie said that as the country develops rapidly, Hong Kong has taken advantage, maintained steadiness and prosperity and made continuous progress. 

She also praised the HKFTU's support for her, the SAR government and Hong Kong police and thanked the grouping for its contribution to the restoration of social order. 

Carrie vowed that the HKSAR government will do its best to stop the ongoing violence and called on everyone to unite.
