The IWF Weightlifting World Championships continued in Pattaya, Thailand where 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist Shi Zhiyong dominated in the men's 73 kilograms (kg) category by winning all three golds as well as setting two world records on Saturday.

Shi started with the highest opening weight in a snatch of 160 kg and made three good lifts. He claimed the gold with 166 kg, nine kilograms more than the silver medalist, Bulgaria's Bozhidar Dimitrov Andreev. Albania's Briken Calja came third with 156 kg.

In the clean and jerk, Shi was able to hoist 197 kg on his second attempt, beating his own world record by one kilogram. He then passed on his final attempt due to some lingering shoulder issues he suffered three days before the competition. The DPRK's O Kang Chol won silver with 193 kg while Andreev earned bronze. Shi's total of 363 kg enhanced his own world record by one kilogram. O Kang finished second and Andreev third.

The star weightlifter has made a successful rise in the weights since taking 69 kg gold at Rio 2016 and showed he was as good as ever with snatch and total world records in April's Asian Championships.
