Chinese Foreign Ministry has confirmed that a Taliban delegation was in China for talks with senior Chinese officials on Sunday.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said on Monday that the delegation included head of the Afghan Taliban Political Office in Doha, Mullah Baladar and several assistants.
Geng said the two sides exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan. He said, while maintaining contacts and communication with all parties concerned in Afghanistan, China has always attached great importance to the situation in Afghanistan, and is committed to promoting peace and reconciliation process in that country.
China supports Afghanis to resolve their problems through a "Afghan-led and Afgan-owned" reconciliation process that is broad-based and inclusive, Geng said.
China hoped that the U.S. and Taliban would maintain the momentum of negotiations to achieve national reconciliation, peace and stability at an early date. And China will continue to play a constructive role, the spokesperson added.
