Forming human chains has been one way to protest in Hong Kong. They may seem like a peaceful way to express disapproval, but the activities were pretexts to carry out acts of sabotage. Participants defaced public property, spray-painted profanity on walls and stuck sanitary towels on the window of a subway station control room. They also tricked students into joining them, without the teenagers knowing what these protesters were up to.
