The state and legal systems of socialism with Chinese characteristics are rooted in the historical and cultural traditions of the 5,000-year-long Chinese civilization, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday, adding that the country has also drawn on the achievements of other civilizations in building its systems.

Deeply rooted in the Chinese people, China's state system can effectively reflect the people's will, protect their rights and interests and stimulate their creativity, he stressed.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while presiding over a group study session of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau. The session focused on the establishment and development of the state and legal systems of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

The upcoming National Day on October 1 will mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. Xi said the session aimed to review how the state and legal systems were built under the CPC's leadership during the past seven decades and explore ways to modernize China's system and capacity for governance.

The CPC has combined the fundamental principles of Marxism with the reality of China and established a new type of state system, Xi noted. He hailed China's state system for its role in guaranteeing rapid economic growth and long-term social stability, stressing that China has offered its wisdom and solution to the world on building better social systems.
