Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday expressed strong indignation and firm opposition as U.S. Congressional committees in the House and Senate approved legislation supporting radical protesters in Hong Kong and urged the U.S. to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs immediately.

The so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 confuses right and wrong in total disregard of facts, brazenly bolsters violent radicals in Hong Kong, and grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said in a statement.

Under the incitement of outside anti-China forces, radical protesters in Hong Kong in recent three months damaged public facilities, attacked police officers and made social order in the city into chaos, said Geng.

What they have done goes far beyond usual protest and assembly, and seriously challenged the bottom line of "One Country, Two Systems," Geng said.

"The U.S. ignores the violent behaviors of Hong Kong radical forces, ignores the public demands from various sectors of Hong Kong, ignores the basic norms of international relations and deliberately passed the Hong Kong-related bill to cheer those radical protesters. This is rude interference of China's internal affairs and fully exposed the sinister intentions of some people in the United States to disrupt Hong Kong and contain China's development," Geng noted.

He further pointed out that there are over 80,000 Americans, 1,300 U.S. enterprises and large U.S. investment in Hong Kong and the U.S. behavior to mess up Hong Kong will not only harm China's interest but also the interests of the U.S. itself.

Geng warned that no one should underestimate China's firm will and determination to safeguard national sovereignty and security, implement "One Country, Two Systems," and safeguard Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.

The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council on Thursday also expressed strong condemnation and opposition over the Hong Kong-related bills.

The intention of the U.S. to pass the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 is to bolster up some radical protesters and worsen the situation of Hong Kong, which will seriously damage China-U.S. ties and do no good to the U.S. itself, said a spokesperson in the statement.

The statement further pointed out that some of the radical protesters turn to outside powers to interfere in Hong Kong issue. They betrayed the country and the interests of Hong Kong, which will be spurned by those who love Hong Kong and the country and will be nailed on the pillar of shame in history forever.

We strongly urge the U.S. to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs, do less to undermine bilateral ties and do more to promote the long-term development and fundamental interests of the two countries, added the statement.

The Office of the Commissioner of Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong on Thursday urged the U.S. Congress to stop pushing forward the Hong Kong-related act.

"We urge the U.S. congressmen to immediately stop playing with fire in advancing Hong Kong-related acts, which will only get themselves burned," the principal official at the commissioner's office said in a statement.

Some U.S. congressmen, however, have shamelessly meddled with Hong Kong affairs by making groundless accusations concerning human rights and democracy, and openly cheered anti-China troublemakers and violent radicals in Hong Kong, the official said, stressing that it only proves again that they are the "black hands" behind the scenes.

"It will inevitably backfire and undermine U.S. interests here," the official said. "All stakeholders in Hong Kong's prosperity and stability should speak in unison against such attempts."

The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong also expressed strong indignation and firm opposition over the Hong Kong-related bill in a statement.

"Some U.S. politicians meddled with Hong Kong affairs, which are China's internal affairs, in the name of supporting 'freedom and justice,'"  said a principal official at the liaison office.

The official stressed that the "One Country, Two Systems" policy will not change no matter what difficulties and challenges are ahead.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress also issued a statement on the same day condemning the U.S. for interfering in China's internal affairs under the guise of "human rights and democracy."

"We urge certain U.S. lawmakers to stop pushing forward the deliberation of the bills immediately and do more things to promote mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries," said the statement.
