To celebrate the harvest, rice paddies in Helan County, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, have been planted with rice of different colors to create unique artwork.
Last year, Ningxia rice and fishery eco-leisure sightseeing park created rice paddy art inspired by epic Chinese tales such as Journey to the West and Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This year, the artwork celebrates the 70th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
Located in the north of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Helan County combines mountains in the west and plains in the east. Irrigated by the Yellow River, it has unique conditions for rice cultivation, but local farmers also receive technical support to help determine how much seeds and fertilizer to use.
Helan County now combines agriculture with tourism, with farmers keeping ducks and fish in rice fields to attract visitors, in addition to growing their crop.
