The CMA CGM Group, a leading worldwide shipping and logistics group, announced its launch of the world's largest container ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Shanghai, on September 25. The ship, named after the French company's founder Jacques Saade, is the first of a new fleet of nine ultra-large LNG-powered container ships which are designed to carry up to 23,000 standard 20-foot shipping containers. CMA CGM first commissioned China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) to build the nine ships in November 2017. And in March 2019, the French liner giant ordered 10 more container ships from CSSC during Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to France. Half of the new ships will be fitted with scrubbers and five will be fueled by LNG.
