Prior to the People's Republic of China's 70th anniversary celebration, Chinese President Xi Jinping is handing out national medals and honorary titles to 42 Chinese and foreign individuals. The list includes the "father of hybrid rice," Yuan Longping, and Nobel Prize winner Tu Youyou, who led the discovery of the anti-malarial drug artemisinin. The recipients are now riding along Chang'an Avenue to the Great Hall of the People Hall for the ceremony.
