Jaime FlorCruz has been living in China for nearly five decades. He's explored most of the country, except the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In this episode of Changing China, he ticks off the northwestern province from his bucket list.

Ningxia has been viewed by the government as a strategic hub for its Belt and Road Initiative.

It's poised to become China's link to the Middle East in terms of trade and business — a success story in the country's efforts to develop and uplift the status of its rural areas.

Having lived in China for nearly 50 years, FlorCruz has become a formidable witness to many changes in the country.

He first arrived in China from the Philippines in 1971 for a three-week study tour.

But due to the worsening political situation back home, FlorCruz got stuck in China. He went on to become a journalist for TIME magazine and CNN, covering China's highs and lows for over 30 years.

Changing China is a six-part special CGTN series featuring FlorCruz looking back at some changes he's witnessed throughout the years.
