China's best destinations in October

October is just around the corner. When it comes to singling out the best vacation spots and compiling the list of the places we're yearning to visit in the coming month, narrowing down the field is easier said than done. But CGTN Travel has selected the top four picture-perfect destinations to catch the beauty of autumn. 

Ming'ao, east China's Zhejiang Province

Hidden deep in Yongjia County in east China's Zhejiang Province, Ming'ao is a small village known for its amazing Ming'ao Terraced Fields.  

October is the best season to visit because you can the rice growth covering all the fields.  The numerous terraced fields along the hills form a stunning scene and perfect for photographers.

Hongye Valley, northeast China's Jilin Province

Hongye Valley, also known as "Red leaf valley," is part of Lafa Mountain National Forest Park's Qingling Scenic Spot in northeast China's Jilin Province. With the onset of autumn, the entire valley lights up with spectacular red leaves.

In 2010, it was chosen as one of the top 10 autumn scenic spots in China by China's National Geography magazine. 

Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Gansu Province

Situated in the northeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at the transition area to the Loess Plateau, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is one of the most desirable destinations for travelers.  

Gannan is dubbed "the nine-colored land" in northwest China, for the reds, oranges, purples, blues and yellows that dot the landscape.

Be it the mysterious ancient Silk Road roots, the diverse natural landscapes or various ethnic cultures – Gannan boasts the unique features of the province and offers a great holiday for visitors.  

Due to the temperamental weather, visitors who plan to visit Gannan need to bring a coat to keep out the cold in the morning and at night.  

Fengning Bashang Grassland, north China's Hebei Province

Covering an area of about 350 kilometers, Chengdu's Fengning Bashang Grassland in north China's Hebei Province is one of the best destinations for its unique views.

Home to a large number of sheep and cattle, this tourist attraction is definitely a getaway from the summer heat and gives you an autumnal experience that's different from seeing the changing leaves.

Apart from the grassland scenery, travelers can also experience many activities such as horse riding, motocross and folk dancing.
