Radical protesters in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) disrupted the city on Sunday, entering in a series of clashes with the police in another episode of the months-long turmoil that started in June. The protesters threw petrol bombs at the police, blocked roads and set fires.

Groups of masked protesters in black vandalized public properties, including trashing fences, destroying sidewalks and spreading bricks on the road. 

At around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, a group of protesters in black gathered at SOGO Department Store in Causeway Bay and marched to the Hong Kong government headquarters, in an illegal rally that wasn't approved by the authorities.

The situation turned into violence when some radical protesters started hurling hard objects, including bricks into the government building and blocking nearby roads.

At 8:30 p.m., protesters started to face off with the police and on multiple occasions across Hong Kong and had scuffles with people who held different views.

Since the afternoon, Hong Kong police carried out several operations near Wan Chai, Admiralty area, in the vicinity of Percival Street and Hennessy Road with "appropriate force" including rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse radical protesters. 

"The police condemn all violence by the radical demonstrators and warn all protesters to stop all illegal acts and leave the site immediately," Hong Kong police said on Twitter while urging residents to avoid the area.

While radical protesters were staging destruction in the city and clashing with the police, hundreds of other Hong Kong residents gathered to sing the Chinese national anthem to celebrate the upcoming Chinese National Day.

HKSAR's Chief Executive Carrie Lam is expected to lead a delegation of over 240 people for the official celebrations in Beijing, according to a SAR government statement issued on Sunday.
