Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday congratulated China's women's volleyball team for winning the World Cup held in Japan.
The Chinese claimed a record-equaling fifth International Federation de Volleyball (FIVB) World Cup title on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up the 12-team tournament with a perfect record.
Xi said the team won the honor for China and the Chinese people.
"In the matches, you were not afraid of strong opponents, dared to fight, showed your style and level and fully demonstrated the Chinese women's volleyball team's spirit of solidarity and hard work. I would like to extend warm congratulations and sincere greetings to you!" he said.
Noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xi added,"China's great achievements are the results of the unity and hard work of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people. I hope you will continue to maintain high morale, stay humble, and create new achievements."
