One dead, 10 injured in Finland 'sword attack'

One person was killed and 10 others injured in a "violent incident" at a vocational college in the eastern Finnish town of Kuopio, with the suspect among the injured, police said on Tuesday.

"Officers used firearms during the situation. Police have detained one perpetrator. The injured have been evacuated," East Finland police said in a statement.

The incident took place at the Savo Vocational College located in the Herman shopping center in Kuopio. The situation has ended, police confirmed.

Media reports said the assailant was armed with a sword.

"According to updated information, Kuopio's Herman has 10 injured, two seriously. There is one dead," police said on Twitter, without adding details or giving a motive for the attack.
