China's Xie Zhenye has once again proved he is one of the most fearsome sprinters in Asia as he booked his place in the 200 meters final of the IAAF World Athletics Championships on Monday night by clocking 20.03 seconds in the semi-final in Doha, Qatar.

The 26-year-old, who broke the Asian men's 200 meters record by finishing in 19.88 in July, became the first Chinese athlete to advance into the 200m final of any major international tournaments, signaling the man is at the top of his game at a crucial stage of his career.

Noah Lyles, who is the overwhelming favorite to win the final on Tuesday, continued his fine form by winning his semi-final in 19.86, while Ecuador's Alex Quinonez took a narrow second in 19.95.

Xie managed to salvage a 'best of the rest' finish by clinching third in 20.03. Britain's Adam Gemili, Canadian Andre De Grasse and Turkey's defending champion Ramil Guliyev also through.

On women's side, Dina Asher-Smith showed no signs of stopping after winning a historic 100m silver for Britain as she ran the fastest time of the day to reach the 200m semi-finals in 22.32.

The 23-year-old, who became the first British woman to win an individual World Championships sprint medal in 36 years, is now a huge favorite for gold.
