Bianca Andreescu rose to the occasion at this year's US Open, where she claimed the women's singles crown by beating Serena Williams and becoming the first player born in the 21st century to win a grand slam title. The world number six is now in Beijing to compete in the China Open, where she spoke to CGTN's Sports Scene's Beyond the Baseline correspondent Wang Dong.

Looking back to the US Open final, the 19-year-old Canadian seemed to still be on a high after the win over Williams, a goal of hers since childhood.

"I have been dreaming of that moment since I was a little girl, so I think that's enough motivation for me to do well against her. I had a sense of how she played... So I knew what to expect going into the match," she said. "I think I controlled my nerves a little bit better... being able to lift that trophy and winning against her, is a dream come true."

Andreescu hopes to continue her season's success, feeling that she can add more titles after her first Grand Slam victory.

"I have a lot of high expectations for myself. I want to do well every time I step on the court... I want to win this tournament," she said. "There is a lot of tough competition out there, so I am looking forward to see how I can handle them."

As the first grand slam winner born in the new millennium, Andreescu is hailed for putting Canada on the map in the world of tennis. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's praises of Andreescu since her win, shows how big of an achievement it is. Trudeau also received her when she went to her hometown of Mississauga as part of her victory tour. The world number six also got a local rally and street named "Andreescu Way."

While embracing all those honors, the US Open champion credited all her success to hard work.

"I believed in myself for a really long time now. At first when I was a junior I did not think I could be as good as I am now," said Andreescu. "But throughout the years I just kept believing in myself, I kept putting in all the work. I really enjoyed playing tennis, so I kept that as my motivation... I did not expect all of this to come so quick, so hopefully I can keep it up."
