Forbes on Wednesday released the top 400 richest Americans list. Of the 42 sports team owners, Steve Ballmer, who owns NBA's Los Angeles Clippers, took the lead with 51.7 billion U.S. dollars.
This is the fifth consecutive time Ballmer is occupying top spot on the richest sports teams owners list. And this time, he saw an increase of 9.4 billion U.S. dollars of his asset, mostly thanks to the Microsoft stakes he now holds as former CEO of the company.
Ballmer joined the sports team owner club in 2014 when he bought the Clippers with two billion U.S. dollars from Donald Sterling who had to sell the franchise because of racist remarks.

Unlike his predecessor, Ballmer showed his passion for basketball by staying with the team and watching their games as often as possible. His ecstatic celebrations at the Staples Center were often caught on camera. This summer, the team introduced Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, aiming for nothing but the NBA Championship.
The No. 2 richest on the list is David Tepper who owns the NFL's Carolina Panthers. According to Forbes, Tepper's asset is worth 12 billion U.S. dollars, less than a quarter of Ballmer's. At No. 3 is Philip Anschutz, owner of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and the Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy. His asset is 11.5 billion.
No. 4 Stanley Kroenke has 9.7 billion U.S. dollars and runs five sports teams: the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, the Premier League's Arsenal, the NBA's Denver Nuggets, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and the Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids.
Jerry Jones ranks 5th with 8.6 billion U.S. dollars. And his Dallas Cowboys (NFL) are the world's only sports team that are valued five billion. From No. 6 to No. 10 are Micky Arison, NBA, Miami Heat, 8.1 billion; Shahid Khan, NFL, Jacksonville Jaguars, 7.8 billion; Stephen Ross, NFL, Miami Dolphins, 7.6 billion; Robert Kraft, NFL, New England Patriots, Major League Soccer, New England Revolution, 6.9 billion; Daniel Gilbert:, NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers, 6.5 billion.
