In 1953, China's first Five-Year Plan called on the entire nation to unite and actively participate in the industrialization drive. Driven by the burning passion of the times, the newly-founded People's Republic of China saw new projects started or completed in fast pace. The country developed rapidly and one success was quickly followed by another. The goals of the Five-Year Plan were met in 1956, a year ahead of schedule.
