Hurricane, a retired U.S. Secret Service dog, was honored with a medal for his devotion to duty in London, UK on Friday, because he protected former U.S. President Obama and his family from an intruder in October, 2014. /VCG Photo

Accompanied by former handler Officer Marshall Mirarchi, the dog received the Order of Merit from the veterinary charity People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA). /VCG Photo

Hurricane was the 31st animal and the first international dog to receive the award. PDSA director Jan McLoughlin said Hurricane had a "truly outstanding career" and "went above and beyond the call of duty when an intruder tried to gain access to the White House."/VCG Photo

Miraichi said it was very hard to watch at that time as his dog suffered ferocious attack when he tried to stop the intruder. "Hurricane went in and did that so we didn't have to," he said. /VCG Photo

Mirachi and Hurricane worked together from 2012 to 2016 and have been together since Hurricane's retirement. /VCG Photo
