The 72-year-old diva said it has been an emotional experience to embark on the farewell journey.

"It's a retrospective look at my 52-year career as a vocal artist, so it's all the classic roles I've played, the best repertoire. Because it's a farewell tour, so I want it to be perfect. It's also a highlighting moment for me, taking a farewell bow in Beijing, for my Chinese fans," the soprano told CGTN.

The grand opening symphony is part of a series of symphonies involving collaborations among famous musicians, choirs and orchestras.

And with the theme "Timeless Music into the Future," the festival will see a wide range of performances, including opera, VR experience, master classes and lectures, the artistic director of the BMF shared with CGTN.

The music festival will conclude with a symphony featuring multi-Grammy-Award-winning American soprano Renee Fleming, renowned Chinese composer Yu Long and the China Philharmonic Orchestra at the Forbidden City Concert Hall.
