The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday lashed out at European Union members of the UN Security Council for issuing a statement condemning its recent test of a new submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), calling it a "grave provocation" against Pyongyang.

The five European members of the UN Security Council met on Tuesday to urge the DPRK "to take concrete steps" towards giving up its nuclear weapon and ballistic missile programs in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner.

In a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency, a spokesperson for DPRK's foreign ministry accused the United States of pushing the countries to sign the statement, warning that Pyongyang might reconsider the steps it has taken to build trust with Washington.

"Our patience has limits, and there is no law that what we have been restraining from will last indefinitely," the spokesperson said, according to Yonhap.

The DPRK spokesman also referred to a U.S. Air Force test of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile this month.

The spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying the U.S. test was "clearly carried out in order to pressure us."

The latest SLBM test came just days before it resumed working-level nuclear talks with the U.S. in Stockholm.
