On Friday morning, Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing for an informal meeting with Indian PM in India and then a state visit to Nepal, from Friday to Sunday.

President Xi's visit to both countries comes at the invitation of their respective leaders, namely Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bandari. President Xi will meet with Modi in India, their second informal meeting and then pay a state visit to Nepal.

President Xi and Modi are expected to discuss major issues including economy, trade ties and issues of global, regional and bilateral importance.

Many experts say this is an important visit not just for the two nations, but the world at large.

"These two leaders are leading very stable and powerful governments," said Director of India Global's Center for Chinese Studies, Prasoon Sharma. "You see the economy is going down, so these two leaders not only can revive the world economy, they can also work on plenty of matters like climate change. And also very sensitive matters, like terrorism."

This is Xi's first overseas trip after the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
