One out of nine girls in Indonesia marry before their 18th birthday, putting the country in the top ten countries with the highest number of child brides. Rasminah was one of those girls and in an interview with CGTN, she shares her life story, which unfortunately is all too common in Indonesia.

Indonesia's parliament raised the minimum age at which women can marry from 16 to 19 years old, in a ruling which is expected to curb child marriage in the country. There was unanimous agreement on the revision of the existing marriage law, according to a statement on Indonesia's House of Representatives' website. Under current laws, girls are allowed to marry at 16 and boys at 19, but parents can ask religious courts or local officials to authorize marriages of younger girls, and in these cases there is no minimum age.
