On a ranking list of the most beautiful places in China, the Midui Glacier is named as "one of the top six gorgeous glaciers in China," for the stunning and unforgettable scenery it creates.

The Midui Glacier is located in Bomi County of Nyingchi Prefecture of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The snow line of this glacier is lower than 4,694 meters, making it one of the lowest-placed glaciers in the world. Since it is close to the No. 318 National Highway, the glacier is very accessible for tourists to enjoy its beauty along with surrounding lakes, forests, and villages.

The Midui Glacier lies at the junctions of two mountains, affected by the southwest monsoon from the India Ocean that brings a large amount of precipitation to form a maritime monsoon glacier.

Currently, the Midui Glacier is reportedly shrinking fast due to global warming. By comparing the two data sets that were released in 2002 and 2014 on glaciers in Tibet and northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the total glacial area of China was reduced by at least 13 percent. Scientists indicate that the shrinking of these glaciers will directly affect India as they supply the water for drinking and irrigation in India.
