Aeronautical pentathlon is a game unique to the Military World Games. The aeronautical pentathlon was included in the Military Games in 1948 following its invention one year prior by Commander E. Petit of the French Air Force, a World War Two officer, to train airmen to fly and survive in case of being shot down. It has six disciplines with each reflecting some aspect of flying. In Wuhan, the aeronautical pentathlon is composed of two parts, a non-scored flying contest of low-level navigation and a sports contest with six disciplines.
