U.S. troops near Syria's border town of Kobani came under artillery fire from Turkish positions on Friday evening, the Pentagon said in a statement.
There were no casualties in the incident, and Turkey said it was an accident but the U.S. side was not convinced.
"U.S. Forces have not withdrawn from Kobani," the Pentagon said, urging Turkey to avoid actions that could "result in immediate defensive action."
According to CBS News, the Turkish Defense Ministry said the artillery fire was not aimed at the American observation but nearby Kurdish fighters. Turkey states that in self-defense, reciprocal fire was open.
