Lau Chak-kei, the station sergeant of the Police Tactical Unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said Hong Kong police have treated protesters like their own.

"So we don't use pistols against them. Now it seems that they don't understand that. They don't know we cherish them. They don't know that we police could have actually gone further and used guns," Lau said during an interview with China Media Group, CGTN's parent station.

The 46-year-old, nicknamed "bald Sergeant Lau," went viral months ago because of one image of him holding a gun in defense of his colleagues. As one representative of the Hong Kong police, Lau was invited to the grand celebration of China's National Day, and he visited the Great Wall, his long-cherished dream.

During the interview, Lau said it makes him sad to see that protesters are not treating police officers as human beings.

"They seem to be acting like children playing video games. They knocked the police down, and move on to another section of the game," Lau sighed.

Many of the Hong Kong police officers have suffered injuries as a result of the violence during their operations. On Sunday, a police officer was stabbed in the neck from behind by a masked attacker at Kwun Tong subway station. While days ago, radical demonstrators were seen hurling petrol bombs at police on camera.

Lau feels the pressure from dealing with the protests has been unlike any he's experienced before. He hopes to see a stable, peaceful Hong Kong.
