South Korea tied with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) 0-0 at the Kim II Sung Stadium in Pyongyang, the DPRK, on Tuesday in Group H in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Both teams won their previous two matches in the second round of Group H. After this game, the two rank 1st and 2nd in the group, with South Korea at the top of the list having scored ten goals. The DPRK has scored three so far.

The two countries have intensified joint participation of sporting events in recent years.

In 2018, delegations from the DPRK and South Korea marched together under the Korean Unification Flag at the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games held in South Korea. For the first time in the Olympic history of the two countries, a unified women's ice hockey team was created with players from both delegations.

Later that same year in June, Chung Mong Gyu, president of the South Korea Football Association proposed to the football associations of the DPRK, China, and Japan to host FIFA World Cup together.

In the 18th Asian Games the same year, the two countries participated in three sports events in joint forms.

South Korea selected Seoul as the candidate city for a joint bid with the DPRK for the 2032 Olympic Games. The DPRK has chosen Pyongyang as the candidate city.

The joint bid and participation in international sports events were agreed upon after the third summit in September, in Pyongyang, between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un.
