China's foreign ministry on October 16 urged American lawmakers to stop interfering in China's internal affairs. It said in a statement China's relationship with the U.S. will be damaged, should the legislation become law. Beijing has strongly opposed the measures. The foreign ministry's office in Hong Kong also expressed opposition, accusing the U.S. of using double standards while ignoring its own police brutality.
