In 2005, a poll about choosing the most beautiful places in China published the final ranking. Among all the places on the list, Rongpo Glacier, which is selected as one of "China's Top Six Glaciers," won a lot of support from people who have seen its beauty.

Rongpo Glacier, also known as the Rongbuk Glacier in the West, is located in the Himalaya Mountain Range of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Mount Qomolangma is the source of two large tributary glaciers, the East and West Rongpo Glaciers that flow into the Main Rongpo Glacier, creating this beautiful snowy wonderland.

This glacier is a gateway for climbers to reach the Advanced Base Camp of Mount Qomolangma at the upper end of the East Rongpo Glacier. Hence, all the climbers who choose this way to reach the top of Qomolangma will have the chance to embrace Rongpo Glacier.

Rongpo Glacier is facing the big threat of climate change, as the glacier is retreating quickly. Based on research, the glacier has shrunk by more than 90 meters vertically, about the height of the Statue of Liberty.
Currently, scientists are monitoring the change of Rongpo Glacier and surrounding areas, trying to make some progress in reducing the speed of glacier's fading.
