The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday it had lodged "solemn representations" with Japan over Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s offering of sacrifices to the Yasukuni Shrine.

"It is the negative movements of Japan on the Yasukuni Shrine issue," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said.

"The Yasukuni Shrine is the spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism in launching a war of foreign aggression. It enshrines 14 Class-A war criminals who have serious crimes against the war of aggression," Geng emphasized.

The practice of some Japanese politicians reflects the wrong attitude of Japan in dealing with the history of aggression.

"We urge Japan to earnestly abide by the attitude and commitment to face up to the history of aggression, and to win the trust of Asian neighbors and the international community through practical actions," Geng added.
