Dahlias, which come in several colors and sizes, are popular garden flowers. You may find the dahlia looks like chrysanthemum, another flamboyant plant. This is because they are actually related as they all belong to the Asteraceae family.

In 1963, the dahlia was declared the national flower of Mexico. Up to today, the plant is still used as an ingredient in Oaxacan cuisine in the country.

Today, there are over 20,000 cultivars of dahlia and they can be found in many gardens across the world.

In Beijing, China, you can find dahlias blooming in many gardens.

For people who love to grow the plant, here are some tips:

1. Dahlias love the sun, so put them under the sun for more blooms.

2. Dahlias grow best in well-drained soil.

3. Don't over-fertilize dahlias as they prefer a low-nitrogen liquid fertilizer.

4. The more you cut the plant, the more it will bloom.

Dahlias are perfect as cut flowers. With a bit of care, they can last for around a week in a vase.
