With some creative ideas and small acts of kindness, humans can help injured animals regain their mobility or their hope in life.

Here is the amazing moment when a wildlife volunteer was able to save the life of a fragile butterfly by carrying out an intricate wing transplant. Katie VanBlaricum, 36, noticed a Monarch butterfly with a piece of its wing missing while working at her local zoo. She immediately decided to try and repair the damaged wing fearing that without the insect would be put down.

A Great Pied Hornbill who lost its beak to cancer has been saved after surgeons gave him a new prosthetic one made with a 3D printer.

Jonty the donkey from The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon, has been given sunglasses to block UV light after he went temporarily blind.

An X-ray image taken of Polly the African pancake tortoise, at Bristol Zoo, showing a large bladder stone. With the help of an operation, the stone was removed successfully.

Maso, a Lake Alaotra gentle lemur, had to undergo surgery to remove her left eye which she injured just two weeks after she was born. She is now recovering well at Bristol Zoo.
