Herbane: A poisonous plant used as an anesthetic

Distributed in Mongolia, Russia, Europe, India and China, herbane is often found on hillsides, roadsides, residential areas and sandy riverbanks. 

Hyoscyamus niger L., commonly known as herbane, was traditionally used as an anesthetic. It is also one of the ingredients in gruit, an old-fashioned herb mixture used for flavoring beer.
