To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and present a panoramic view of the country's great journey, the 24-episode documentary "On the Road" focuses on the great achievements and valuable experiences of people of all ethnic groups in the socialist revolution, construction and reform over the past 70 years. It also recounts the touching stories and important events of the country since 1949.

The 20th episode of the series looks at how culture forges the soul of a nation. With a history of over 5,000 years, China's unique and profound culture nurtured through countless generations has also been a spiritual support for its people.

It has armed people with courage to overcome difficulties over the centuries, and has provided the nation with the strength towards rejuvenation.

In adapting Marxism to their circumstances, the Chinese people made a number of major theoretical innovations. These served to enrich the ideological aspects of their civilization and create a modern culture capable of guiding contemporary development.

Traditional culture is the root and the soul of the Chinese nation, as well as the soil in which socialism with Chinese characteristics has grown. Modern science had been strengthening the appeal of a piece of traditional culture.

Nowadays, China produces more books and TV series than any other country, and is the world's second biggest producer of movies. In 2018, China's box office receipts surpassed 60 billion yuan, a new record.

There are more than 3,000 libraries above county level across the whole country, and more than 4,000 museums have been built. Some 290,000 villages and 40,000 communities have established grassroots integrated culture service centers.

High-quality cultural products give people a greater sense of gain and happiness.

Today, the Chinese culture is also moving into the world stage. As mentioned by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, culture is enriched by exchange and mutual learning.

As Chinese culture grows with increasing influences, the world is seeing a real, multi-dimensional, and comprehensive image of China.
