World Cheese Awards held in Italy for the first time

The 2019 World Cheese Awards was held in Bergamo, Italy on October 18, 2019 as hundreds of international judges gathered together to pick out the best cheese. /VCG Photo

Rogue Creamery's Rogue River Blue cheese took home the title of the "World Champion Cheese." It is the first time that an American cheesemaker won the title. /VCG Photo

85 supergold cheeses were selected from the 3,804 cheese delivered by 42 countries by 265 judges during the competition. /VCG Photo

From that selection, 16 super judges chose the final 16 cheeses and picked out the best cheese in the world. /VCG Photo

For the first time ever, the World Cheese Awards visited Italy. Last year, a total of 3,472 cheeses from 41 different countries were judged during the competition held in Bergen, Norway. /VCG Photo
