Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday urged China and France to unlock the unique people-to-people advantages of the two countries and foster a more stable and dynamic comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang made the remarks when co-chairing the fifth meeting of the China-France High-level Mechanism for Dialogue on People-to-People Exchanges in Paris with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The Chinese official noted that the two sides should continue to give full play to the overall coordination role of the mechanism. He called for setting an example for the harmonious coexistence and cooperation of different civilizations and urged the two sides to promote mutual learning among civilizations.

In terms of future cooperation, Wang said the two sides will comprehensively deepen the training of high-level talents in Chinese and French colleges and universities, expand the scale of two-way overseas study, and improve the level of cooperation in running schools.

With the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games fast approaching, Wang noted the two countries should strengthen project leadership, concentrate resources on building these promising projects and improve the level of event preparation and sports cooperation.

"We should not only open up the main channels of intergovernmental cooperation, but also enrich the platforms of people-to-people exchanges, and actively promote exchanges and cooperation between young people and women," Wang noted, calling on both sides to expand people's participation.

Le Drian expressed belief that the China-France High-level Mechanism for Dialogue on People-to-People Exchanges has become an important part of bilateral relations with remarkable results.

In the spirit of openness and mutual respect, France is willing to deepen people-to-people exchanges and cooperation with China, he noted.

The French foreign minister also said France hopes to work with China to celebrate the year of culture and tourism in 2021, and promote exchanges and cooperation in sports and education among youth and women.

During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed their achievements in education, science and technology, culture, tourism, sports and other fields and key cooperation projects in the next stage, and reached a series of cooperation documents.

Equality, inclusiveness and cooperation

Before the meeting, Wang delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Sino-French Dialogue on Civilization, during which he highlighted China's commitment to equality, inclusiveness and cooperation.

The world today is facing great changes that have not occurred in a hundred years. As two ancient civilizations, China and France should have a broader mind than the ocean and the sky, so that the light of human civilization of equality, inclusiveness and cooperation will shine forever.

The two sides should persist in treating each other equally and let different civilizations show their own beauty, the Chinese minister said.

China opposes any form of "theory of superiority of civilization" and "theory of conflict of civilizations"

We should adhere to openness and inclusiveness, and let different civilizations shine their beauty themselves, Wang proposed.

He expressed belief that all countries should look at other civilizations and the progress of other countries in a rational and inclusive manner.

Referring to the cooperation among different civilizations, Wang said, "We should adhere to cooperation and progress together, so that different civilizations can share their beauty with each other."

Cooperation has proven to be the only right choice, self-isolation is anachronistic and unilateralism is unpopular.

Under the guidance of concepts such as jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and building a "community with a shared future for mankind," China is willing to adhere to and carry forward multilateralism, deepen cooperation with other countries, and make unremitting efforts to promote the overall development and progress of human civilization, he added.
