"Growing" is the word used to describe the local tourism industry of the Chinese city of Kashgar. Located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Kashgar is mostly known for being a historical corridor, connecting traders from Pakistan, the Middle East and Central Asia with China. Despite the obvious changes and modernization, Kashgar still retains an ambiance of the past.

Kashgar's ancient old town, which was renovated around a decade ago, has become a focal point for travelers hoping to get an experience of all-things Xinjiang, including culinary delights, dance and music. In the process of encouraging tourism development, specifically in the ancient old town, local officials have also been able to use the initiative to address wider issues, such as poverty, low incomes and unemployment.
