China dominates diving, table tennis at Military World Games

Team China finished Thursday at the World Military Games by winning more medals: 14 gold, 10 silver and one bronze.

Having achieved great successes in swimming, Chinese athletes Thursday claimed the medals in another one of their fortes – diving. After multiple rounds of competitions, Wang Zongyuan and Ma Depeng pocketed both the gold and silver medals in the men's 1-meter springboard. Si Yajie and Linshan copied their success in the women's platform. In the women's 3-meter synchronized springboard final, China's Wei Ying and Huang Xiaohui defeated Ilinykh Kristina and Timoshinina Iuliia from Russia and another two couples from Brazil and Russia to win the championship.

Chinese athletes also did well in the country's long suit, table tennis. Four Chinese pairs, Fan Zhendong/Zhou Yu and Zhou Kai/Xu Chenhao and Chen Ke/Mu Zi and Liu Xi/Sun Mingyang, won golds and silvers in both the men's and women's doubles.

Team China claimed two track-and-field gold medals as well on Thursday. Wang Jianan finished the men's long jump final with 8.15 meters, beating the 8.12 meters by his compatriot Huang Changzhou to win the title. In the women's discus throw final, China's Feng Bin defeated Martins Fernanda of Brazil and Anagnostopoulou Chrysoula of Greece to add another gold under her country's name.

The rest of the seven gold medals won by Chinese athletes on Thursday were one from the women's obstacle relay in military pentathlon, one from the women's team in modern pentathlon, two from junior men's individual accuracy and junior men's individual overall in parachuting, two from team's 300-meter military rapid fire rifle and the women's 25-meter military rapid fire pistol in shooting, and one from the women's -46 kg in Taekwondo.
