A Russian conscript serving at a military base in the far east of the country shot dead eight other soldiers after a possible nervous breakdown, local media reported citing the Russian defense ministry.

Per details, the shooter opened fire on his fellow soldiers using his service firearm at around 6:20 p.m. local time at a military base in the Zabaykalsky Territory during guard change. 

The unidentified shooter has been detained, the defense ministry said.

Local media said the nervous breakdown was caused by personal issues unrelated to his service.

Two more people were also injured in the shooting and are being treated at a military hospital. The injured are reported to be out of danger.
