Initiated by Qian Wei, wife of China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the 11th "Love Knows No Border" International Charity Sale will be held at the warm-up field of the National Stadium in Beijing from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CFPA and co-organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Beijing municipal government and Beijing's Chaoyang District government. Diplomats from over 80 embassies and representative institutions of international organizations in China will attend the event, and more than 40 enterprises are expected to donate for the event. The opening ceremony is set for 9:30-10:00 a.m.

Wang Yi and his wife, together with some MFA leaders in Beijing and some foreign diplomatic envoys and their spouses in China will attend the ceremony and visit the exhibitions. The fund raised will be used to establish sporting fields for cochlea for schools in villages of Jinping and Malipo in southwestern Yunnan Province, and to make contributions to targeted poverty reduction.

In 2009, the international charity sale project named "Love Knows No Borders" was launched in China. Since then, the project has been annually held, either as a poverty alleviation project of the Chinese foreign ministry or as a social charity project. Let's review the projects from past years.

In 2009, "The International Charity Sale for Children's Education in Poor Areas of China's Yunnan Province" collected 1.8 million yuan (around 250,000 U.S. dollars). The donation helped build two teaching buildings in Yunnan Province, thanks to the poverty alleviation project of the foreign ministry.

The next year, the social charity project named "The International Charity Sale for Persons with Disabilities," collected 1.5 million yuan (213,000 U.S. dollars). The money was donated for the building of two rehabilitation centers in Xibaipo, northern Heibei Province and Zhouqu, northwestern Gansu Province.

"The International Charity Sale for Poor Mountain Villages in Yunnan Province" collected over three million yuan in 2011. The donation was used to upgrade basic infrastructures in two villages in Jinping and Malipo in Yunnan Province. It was a poverty alleviation project of the ministry.

Then in 2012, nearly 5 million yuan were collected for the social charity project "The International Charity Sale for the Lifeline Express Bright Journey." Three million yuan of the donation were used to pay for surgeries of 1,500 cataract patients in impoverished areas of Xinxiang, central Henan Province. The rest was spent on poverty alleviation projects in two counties in Yunnan.

In 2013, "Love Knows No Borders" collected three million yuan. The donation was used to build two water cellars for Jinping and Malipo in Yunnan, thanks to the poverty alleviation project of the foreign ministry.

The following year, the International Charity Sale collected over 3.3 million yuan, which were donated to 133 children with congenital heart disease in southwestern Guizhou Province for their surgery.

In 2015, the project for a Tribute to Rural Teachers in Yunnan Province collected around three million yuan. The fund was used to award school teachers on special posts in Jinping and Malipo in Yunnan, as part of the foreign ministry's poverty alleviation efforts.

"Love Knows No Borders" received over two million yuan in 2016. The fund of the social charity project was used to construct 22 bridges in impoverished areas of Lingyun and Tianlin counties in southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to benefit local people's daily lives.

In 2017, "Love Knows No Borders – International Charity Sale for Healthy Villages in Yunnan" collected 3.3 million yuan. The donation was used for building one village-level and seven lower-level medical centers in Jinping and Malipo in Yunnan Province. As of now, the construction of the new facilities has been completed.

Last year, "The International Charity Sale: Hear Love of the World" received just over six million yuan. The donation was used to help children with hearing disabilities in impoverished areas in Gansu and other provinces afford artificial hearing implants.
